Daemons Discuss - Podcast: Take 80! | Our TV Wish-List; Series/Season 3, feat. Dr. Shelli Carter

Hey, we can dream!

Take 80 - The One With the Wishes You Won't Find on Amazon

Description: It's time for Take 80 -- an "On the Tens" episode. This time, we decided to put our wishes out into the universe for Season 3 of A Discovery of Witches (based on The Book of Life.) Yes, we are jumping ahead a bit, but it's filming now, so why not? πŸ˜€

SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read All Souls universe books, including the trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, The Book of Life), and  Time's Convert + snippits from The World of All Souls. If you haven't, and you don't mind, we certainly don't mind!  Please be advised, we will approach the television series (A Discovery of Witches) the same way as episodes are released in the US/Canada. 😊  Let's do this. *Note - this podcast is labeled 'explicit'

1. Show notes:

For newcomers to the series:
  • Our Daemon Guides to the All Souls Trilogy are available for download: ADOW, SON, TBOL
  • If you'd like a ready-reference from the author herself, be sure to download the All Souls Real-Time Reading companion (free e-book at online booksellers via Penguin and Headline books). For a more in-depth view of the trilogy, The World of All Souls is available at all major book sellers, as well as the continuation volume into this world, Time's Convert.
  • Deborah Harkness usually conducts a real-time reading on her Facebook Page (starting in September), and shares her posts across social media. Check out her website for all of her social media links, and of course all that she has to offer her readers! Be sure to sign up for her newsletter while you are there!

Topic:
Our Wish-list for Season 3 of A Discovery of Witches (TV series)
  • Things we liked in S1 and hope continues throughout the series
  • Shelli - The expanded world-view.
  • Angela - A continuation of the score and soundscape of S1.
  • Jean - An expansive view of the de Clermont family dynamics.
  • Valerie - More back-stories of daemons.
  • Things we didn’t like in S1, so stop it!
  • Angela - Quit making Matthew the constant hero. We already love him, no need for more!
  • Shelli - Stop taking away the science!
  • Jean - 1) better tailoring 2) Diana’s character weaknesses are very hidden; expose them 3) fear of expansion of Gallowglass’s role.
  • Valerie - the diminishment of vital secondary characters (example: Marthe). Also, the lack of  closure on Gillian!
  • What we’d like to see in S3 (scenes/interactions)
  • Jean - Ransome and New Orleans! More of the Congregation! Walking into the Mayfair house for the first time! The round tower!
  • Shelli - Jack in his blood-rage (the scene with his frenzied painting on the walls).
  • Angela - Hubbard dressing Diana and Matthew down, and how he (Hubbard) stepped up to the plate in securing Jack's care over the centuries.
  • Valerie - Ysabeau being held at Gerbert; she also expresses fear of plumping up Gallowglass’s love-sick melancholy.
  • Scenes that cannot be cut out (in our opinions):
  • Shelli - All of the creatures and their interactions in Chris's lab.
  • Angela - The different locations (they are important). She adds, not a scene, but a request for improved quality of some of the special effects (Satu/Diana flying scene came to mind).
  • Jean - Corra in the Bodleian; the caper is important. Also, cloak porn. Oh, yes, and the Blasted Tree
  • Valerie - Scene with Diana’s confrontation of the creatures on the Congregation with the truth about the Book of Life, and her relationship with it.
  • Add-on wishes
  • Angela - better promotion of Series 2 (at the time of this recording, we didn’t have a lot).
  • Shelli - realistic lab scenes.
  • Jean - Les Revenants.
  • Valerie - wonders how much the TV pacing will be rushed; the Book of Life felt rushed to her, and she hopes they will take some time to flesh out some plots/ongoing themes in the overall story.

* Our episode titles are a loving tribute to the show "Friends" just 'cause we love Friends and - let's face it - it's easier! Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:
Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"
