Daemons Discuss - Podcast: Take 76! | Chapter Discussion about the All Souls Trilogy; Chapter 8 of The Book of Life

Got rage? Pound in some fence posts. That'll fix it!

Take 76 - The One With the Unsolicited Advice

Description: Instead of beating himself up, Matthew has taken to beating posts into the ground with the guise of repairing Sarah's failing fence. Well, we all know that our Matthew's got some issues! And if he doesn't beat himself up enough, Fernando is there to assist. Fernando knows him pretty well though, so he suggests Matthew take up the science-y stuff concerning his and Diana's genetics to occupy his mind. Miriam breaks in to inject her own 2 cents (she speaks for us!), and this chapter winds down with a visit from "bulldozer" Vivian Harrison. We enjoyed recording this chapter, we hope you enjoy listening to it! Also, in our Save it For the Show segment there's some TV News; we do a bit of whiplash time-walking to make sure you are up to date with the latest and greatest (TRAILER! YAY!)

SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read All Souls universe books, including the trilogy (A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, The Book of Life), and  Time's Convert + snippits from The World of All Souls. If you haven't, and you don't mind, we certainly don't mind!  Please be advised, we will approach the television series (A Discovery of Witches) the same way as episodes are released in the US/Canada. 😊  Let's do this. *Note - this podcast is labeled 'explicit'

Topic: Chapter 8, The Book of Life
  • We discuss our new observations concerning Fernando’s counseling.
  • “Thwack!”πŸ”¨
  • They may be in Madison, but Baldwin still holds the leash!
  • A vampire fence guy!
  • Matthew, we agree. Benjamin should’ve been taken care of a long time ago.🀨
  • The was a family meeting among the de Clermont men. Obey or else! Threats are involved, because some of these brothers are mutinous.
  • Gallowglass being shaken indicates how serious the situation they are in actually is. 😳
  • There’s a lot of pot meet kettle in this episode. Fernando is up first.
  • Matthew takes a moment to feel sorry for himself … “Diana’s aunts never approved of me….” MATTHEW! STOP IT!
  • We think that Matthew was obsessive prior to becoming a vampire.
  • Ohhhh…Matthew the pleasure delayer really did want Diana to be a vampire. A part of him did, anyway.
  • Angela observes that this conversation is very similar to Hamish’s conversation with Matthew in ADOW
  • Fernando is frightened for Matthew’s unborn kids; we disagree and believe this is a stretch — but to be fair, we have the insight of Time’s Convert.πŸ€ͺ
  • How did Fernando become such a expert on blood rage? Was it just Matthew, or has he observed it in others?
  • Val thinks Matthew has never wanted to lead anything, never mind his own scion.
  • Focus on the science! Even “dumb” Gallowglass thinks so (Fernando didn’t actually say that, but that’s what it sounded like!) He suggests that he collaborate with Miriam, and get to sciencing! πŸ”¬
  • Miriam dials in as our mental savior!
  • Miriam thinks that may have been Benjamin snooping around Diana’s rooms! Wow, we didn’t remember this our first read.
  • OOOOH! That’s why he couldn’t tell Father Hubbard was his grandson!!!πŸ’‘
  • Miriam snaps at Matthew (well deserved).
  • “Even monsters can change…” Martyr Matthew is back!
  • Miriam ponders the firedrake. She's intrigued!πŸ‰
  • Matthew is keeping some info from Miriam, and Miriam can totally tell. 🀨
  • Miriam’s mike-drop. DAMN. 🎀
  • VIVIAN! Yay!
  • Goddess preserve us from handsome vampires πŸ§›πŸ»‍♂️
  • Diana spells out all of their problems in a few short sentences.
  • Lugnasah, dammit, Sarah you’re going!
  • Turns out the Bishops weren’t hiding sh*t!
  • It seems Sarah is feeling more herself!
  • A little spat.πŸ₯Š
  • Pots calling kettles black again!
  • A little make-up session.πŸ–€
  • FIN

* Our episode titles are a loving tribute to the show "Friends" just 'cause we love Friends and - let's face it - it's easier! Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:
Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"
