Daemons Discuss: Podcast - Take 3! | We Love The All Souls Trilogy, But Let's Talk About Other Books

Take 3 - The One with the Other Books.

Description: The more formal title of this would be "What to read while waiting for The Serpent's Mirror, the TV series and more!" - We discuss books and series we've enjoyed and why we like them.  Since we have The All Souls Trilogy in common, perhaps you, the listener, may find something you can enjoy.  Could be fantasy, romance, slash (gasp!), historical, classic, YA, NA, non-fiction, etc..  Have a listen, grab a pencil/pad and maybe you'll find something to cozy to up by the fire with this season! Also, we've got mail!  :) Thank you for being the people (besides our parents/kids/besties) to press "play"

SPOILER ALERT! We (The Daemons) approach this podcast with an assumption that the listener has read The All Souls Trilogy, including A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, and The Book of Life.  If you haven't, and you don't mind, we certainly don't mind!  :)  Let's do this.

Listen:

1. Show notes:

Featuring Graham! (you can hear him @ 53:04 & 56:14)
For newcomers to the All Souls Trilogy:
We'll start with the basics: The books in discussion are A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night and The Book of Life.  Together they make The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness.
- Our Daemon Guides to the All Souls Trilogy are available for download: ADOW, SON, TBOL
- If you'd like a ready-reference from the author herself, be sure to download the All Souls Real-Time Reading companion (free e-book at online booksellers via Penguin and Headline books).
- Deborah Harkness usually conducts a real-time reading on her Facebook Page (starting in September), and shares her posts across social media.  Check out her website for all of her social media links, and of course all that she has to offer her readers!
- For All Souls chapter-by-chapter reading/commentary visit The All Souls Podcast.

Other items

* Deb's tweet:

FYI, we had more books/series to share (of the salacious flavor), but this episode ran very long, so we decided to save those for a different episode.  Look for "Daemons after Dark" suggestions in the near future.  We generally like to keep the episodes between 30-50 minutes.   We don't want to bore people!  We know you are busy like we are, and time is a precious commodity!

Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James (mentioned 05:08)

Jane Austen of the 'Jane Austen Fan-Fic' (04:25)

Valerie mentioned the Cut and Run (07:22) series in passing.  We will probably cover much more in that episode we are planning (mentioned above).  Head's up: a high recommend by both Val & Jean.

The man on Angela's plane (33:21) : Henry Neff, author of the Tapestry Series.  More to come after she reads it with her daughter!

THIS (45:10): The propeller guy...

Angela's pieces from her trip last year (48:25): The Maven Daemon Takes Manhattan - Part 1 & Part 2

Thank you to all who sent in emails! If you sent in an answer to our mystery question and didn't hear it here, it will be read!  Listen for it in the next episode: The One with the Witches (coming in November 2016).  If you want to send us an answer to "the question"... or you'd just like to make your own comments, scroll down and fill out the form.  :)

From the emails: Visit Laura at The Tenth Knot, and AllSoulsCon.   Livia's author Facebook page can be found here.  Also, Victoria's blog is located here: Zemfirka Blogs

Halloween Contest (runs until 31 October, 2016).  If you listen to this before Halloween night, 2016, be sure to ENTER!

If you are wondering why we didn't mention the Outlander series (by Diana Gabaldon), it's because it's been a 'given' in this fandom that the OL series is a quick "recommend" by readers as books that are enjoyable for people of the AST fandom.  Many All Souls readers have already read them.  We were going for the road less traveled!  However, if you haven't read them, check out the books --> here

That excerpt from Jerricho Z. Barrons' POV (in the Fever series) is no longer located on Karen Marie Moning's site.  But we did find a transcript of the document hereDisclaimer: we aren't sure if it's done with permission from the author or not.  This link is supplied here for your convenience and to provide further information.  It does not signify that we endorse that particular website or its owner's choice to publish the material.  ~ P.S. The Philippe/Ysabeau fan-fic that Jean mentioned can be found here.

Whoops! (Corrections)
(20:56) The human in BDB is "Butch" not "Bert!"...WHOOPS!
(37:08) Angela mentioned the book "11/11/63", it's actually 11/22/63 (by Stephen King)
(41:33) Jean said "Lacey Smith Baldwin", it's actually Lacey Baldwin Smith

* Our episode titles are a loving tribute to the show "Friends" just 'cause we love Friends and - let's face it - it's easier! Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:
Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?"
This was a Daemon Production
